The \u003cem\u003eBeidou \u003c\/em\u003e(or \"North Star\") cultivar is a direct descendant of true \u003cem\u003eDa Hong Pao\u003c\/em\u003e (\"Grand Scarlet Robe\"), and was originally produced in the 1990's from cuttings of the \u003cem\u003eDa Hong Pao\u003c\/em\u003e mother plants. Nowadays, as the mother plants themselves are no longer actively harvested for tea production, descendant clonal cultivars like \u003cem\u003eBeidou\u003c\/em\u003e offer the closest way possible to experience the fabled taste of authentic \u003cem\u003eDa Hong Pao\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOur Heritage Beidou is produced near \u003cem\u003eMa Tou Yan\u003c\/em\u003e (\"Horse Head Cliff\") in the \u003cem\u003eZhengyan\u003c\/em\u003e (\"True Cliff\") district — the oldest and most revered micro-terroir within the Wuyi Mountain region. Each batch is meticulously hand-crafted from carefully selected leaves, then finished in the traditional style with several \"heritage\" roasts over longan charcoal.
